I bet you our stories are very similar

In 2016, I hit my highest weight of 277 lbs and was ready to give up, then a comment snapped me out of it. I lost 115 lbs and have maintained it for 7 years... here's my story....

I grew up in what I like to imagine as the peak of diet culture, everything was low fat, fat free and every week there was a new magic solution that would help you lose weight without even trying. All you had to do was basically torture yourself until you couldn't do it anymore, beat yourself up because you had no willpower, and move on to the next thing. 

 

The first diet I remember was in high school, a juice cleanse. I made it until lunch time and thought I was going to starve to death. That was my first "failure". 

 

Fast forward to college, I hated school and I had the freedom to eat all the french fries I wanted. And trust me, I ate the french fries. All the sudden, I went from average weight to overweight. Within a year, I gained 100 lbs and the belief that I was a complete failure with no will power and no discipline. 

 

Over the next decade, I was on and off every single diet you can think of. If it promised results, I would try it. I would lose 40 lbs, gain 50, lose 30, gain 60. By 2016, I hit my highest weight of 277 lbs. 

 

At this point every decision I made was about my weight. I didn't want to be in pictures, I didn't want to go swimming, I didn't see the point in trying to look nice, I didn't see a point in anything. I couldn't do things I enjoyed, like painting my toe nails or riding a roller coaster. My life was basically dieting, failing then being depressed... on repeat.

 

Then in 2017, a comment finally pushed me over the edge. Someone told me I was too fat to date, and it lit a spark in me that was unstoppable. I realized, I was FED UP with "fat" being the reason I couldn't live a life that made me happy. All the sudden, I finally had my WHY! 

 

Within a year and a half, I lost 115 lbs without a crazy fad diet, without any drastic life changes, without torturing myself until I couldn't take it anymore. 

 

Being able to finally commit to changing my life, literally changed my life. All the sudden, I wasn't having to shop in the terrible, floral plus sized section, I didn't have to avoid things I enjoyed doing, all I wanted to do was take pictures, and I could ride any roller coaster I wanted.

 

My confidence sky rocketed, and all I wanted to do was help other people escape the diet nightmare and finally live their life.
That's when I became a health coach, and I've never looked back. Throughout my journey, I learned it's not about willpower, discipline, or torture... I just never learned the skills needed to live healthy. I learned how to diet, but never the skills to live a healthy lifestyle. 
So now, 115 lbs and 7 years later, I am able to help others break out of diet culture and reach their weight loss goals in a sustainable way.

Coaching with Me

Change isn't easy and all the noise in the world makes it even harder. As a coach, I pride myself on being down to earth, realistic & relatable. I've been there, trying diet after diet, reading book after book, and scrolling the internet to figure out how to create a life I want. Over time, I realized, I had the answers all along.

That is my coaching approach, to help you find the answers with guidance, knowledge and support along the way. Coaching is a partnership, meaning you are the expert of you & I bring the expertise on change. 


So what does that look like? I want to get to know you, your experiences and your feedback. I want to know what your day to day life looks like, what takes up your time, what refuels you and facets of your life that may seem unimportant on the surface. This will help me identify and create a path for you that truly aligns with you, your life and your values. Rather than providing a cookie cutter blue print, together we create a path that leads you to true, lasting change. 

 

I take a client-centered approach, so rather than telling you what to do, I'm going to ask questions because for change to be sustainable, it has to be internal and what feels realistic to you. Sometimes our conversations will be uplifting & motivating, sometimes they will be education based, and sometimes they will be really hard, but each week builds to an overall picture of creating a lifestyle that is sustainable for you.
