When we say, I want to get healthy, what does that actually mean? There are a lot of factors that go into living a healthy lifestyle, and while there are basic things such as eating healthy, exercising, managing stress there are so many other personal things that can help create a vision of what a healthy lifestyle really means to you. If you want to dig a little deeper into what get healthy really means to you, try answering the following questions to create Your Personal Health Vision.
Something important to remember when answering these questions, answer what feels true to you, not what you think it should be.
Health: What does healthy mean to you? What do you currently feel/notice and what would you like to change?
Food: In your vision, what does your relationship with food look like? What kinds of things are most important to you when it comes to food?
Activity: What physical activities do you enjoy? Do you enjoy structured exercise or activities like hiking or walking? How often would you want to do those things?
Lifestyle Factors: How are your current sleep habits? What about stress levels? What other things impact your lifestyle? How would you want those to change?
How?: How would you incorporate these things into your current lifestyle? Think of your day to day life, what would feel realistic to add in?
Why?: Why do you want to incorporate these activities into your life? What would you gain by doing this?
Once you answer these questions, take a few minutes to reflect and imagine you are living that vision already? What do you notice? How do you feel?
Next, think of a few achievable goals to start adding some of those things into your life. It doesn’t matter how “small” they seem, what matters is that they feel realistic to you! So often we go all or nothing, and it’s too much to implement so we throw it all in the dumpster and go back to our previous habits. So just pick a few small things and start implementing them. Once you feel in a good rhythm, add a few more in. Before you know it, a few small goals here and there have helped you create a healthy lifestyle that feels good to you!
As much as the world often tries to tell us, loudly: THIS IS THE PERFECT VISION OF A HEALTHY PERSON, that isn’t real.
That’s the purpose of stepping outside the box, then breaking it. There is no prescription for the perfect vision, you create that vision and build the skills to achieve that vision. I know you can do it!
